Problem

Customer is reporting error as shown in the screenshot below when trying to start for example the EMVCo DTE application.

Solution

This error message means that communication to the PTX1xxR device via UART failed. The most common cause of this error message is that either a COM port has been selected which belongs to another non-PTX device or the DIP switches on the PTX Eval Board are not set to UART->USB mode.

To check if the right COM port is used press the right mouse button on the Windows 10 start menu button and select “Device Manager” from the context-menu. In the opening dialog windows expand the node “Ports (COM & LPT)”. Now plug and un-plug the PTX Eval Board to see which port identifier toggles to appear in the list. That one is the one which belong to the PTX Eval Board.

To check if the DIP switches are set to the UART->USB mode please compare your PTX Eval Board with the image below:
